VISIT TO BELVOIR CASTLE
This trip is now fully booked
Thursday September 5th 2024
Crowning a hill in rural Leicestershire Belvoir Castle has been the home of the Duke of Rutland’s family since 1067 when, with land gifted by William the Conqueror, the first fortified castle was built by Robert de Todeni, the family’s first recorded ancestor. Since then four castles have stood on this site, the present one designed by Elizabeth, the fifth Duchess in 1801. With extraordinary views the castle remains one of the most magnificent and beautiful Regency houses in England. After a two year restoration to bring the lost designs of Capability Brown to fruition the gardens now look better than ever and should still have much colour in September.

- 10.45am: Coffee and biscuits at Belvoir Castle
